1,016 cu ft published cargo space
If items are bulky or hard to stack, compare with 26 ft truck. Never exceed payload or towing limits.
Home size starts the estimate. Furniture finishes it.
A bedroom count is a useful shortcut, but two homes with the same number of bedrooms can have very different loads. A sectional sofa, workshop, garage or many items that cannot stack can push the recommendation up.
Before you book
- List sofas, beds, appliances and unusually long or wide items.
- Compare the cargo area's exact length, width and height.
- Check whether wheel wells or a loading ramp reduce usable room.
- Follow payload and towing limits; this tool does not calculate weight safety.

| 10 ft truck | About 402 cu ft | Studio or light 1 bedroom |

Moving truck size FAQ
What size moving truck do I need?
A cargo van or 10-foot truck can suit some studios, a 15-foot truck can suit many one-bedroom moves, a 20-foot truck can suit many two-bedroom moves, and a 26-foot or larger truck is often compared for three or more bedrooms. Furniture and packing style can change the answer.
Will a 10-foot truck fit a one-bedroom apartment?
It can fit some lighter one-bedroom moves, but a 15-foot truck gives more room for typical furniture and less-perfect stacking. Compare the item list and the provider's exact cargo dimensions before booking.
Is truck cubic footage the same as usable space?
No. Published cargo volume describes the empty interior. Wheel wells, furniture shapes, protective padding and gaps reduce the space you can use efficiently.
Does this calculator check truck weight limits?
No. It estimates space only. Always follow the provider's payload, towing, loading and driving limits. Heavy books or equipment may reach a weight limit before the truck looks full.
Source and safety note
Cargo-volume references and size labels are based on U-Haul's published truck-size guide. Check the exact provider and vehicle before booking. This tool estimates space only and does not calculate payload, towing, clearance, licensing or safe driving conditions.
